Lombard Lot Work

The Lombard lot is really coming along. We were suprised that the weeds grew up so quickly. They are already waist high! Last Tuesday we helped fill raised beds with soil and started clearing a path that will take visitors on a tour of the garden. Soon we will learn how to make natural beauty products using things like mint, which is growing very well in the garden. It is great to be contributing to City High's garden project!

Cinnamon and Tea Poached Plums
1 c Water
2 Tea bags (pref Earl Grey)
1/3 c Sugar
1 sm Stick cinnamon
6 Red plums halved and pitted

In a 12-qt. saucepan, boil the water and then steep the tea in it for 5 minutes. Discard the tea bags and add sugar and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil and add the plums. Lower the heat, cover and simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the plums are tender but firm. Lift out the plums with a slotted spoon and transfer to a serving dish. Reduce the sauce by boiling for 5 minutes, then strain the sauce over the plums. Serve over pudding or ice cream.

How To Make Lip Balm..

We are making Lip Balm. Here are some ingredients and directions of How to make it the Best Tasting Lip Balm.

Ingredients:

2 Teaspoons Grated Beeswax or Beeswax Pellets
3 - 6 Drops Flavored Oil
1 Teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil or mix 1/2 and 1/2
1 1/2 Teaspoon Cocoa Butter
1 Vitamin E Capsule (as a preservative)
Directions:

Melt all carrier oils, beeswax and butters over low heat. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add the flavored oils, essential oils, vitamin E, etc. Stir until all ingredients are blended well and pour into containers. The easiest way to do this, is to purchase those inexpensive "pointy" paper drink cups (like the kind on the side of a water cooler). Cut off the point and use it as a funnel. Then you can just toss them out when you're finished!
You may have to "play around" with these recipes by adding a tiny bit more or less of the beeswax pellets. As with any of these recipes, if it comes out too soft, add a few more beeswax pellets; if it's too hard, add a little more almond oil (or other oil). They're really hard to mess up, so enjoy yourself and have fun.
